One-Pot Shakshuka Recipe in 3 Easy Steps. Ready in 15 Minutes

Shakshuka Recipe: I have made many recipes with eggs, not only because they are fun and easy and delicious, but they are also a good source of protein. I have made many recipes and one more amazing recipe to add to that list is Shakshuka.

Shakshuka has been trending on the internet for quite some time now due to its quick and delicious recipe. It is a recipe of African origin made with eggs and tomato gravy. It resembles our common Indian tomato gravy curry, but the egg flavour and texture is quite different from the curry we make regularly.

Ingredients for Shakshuka:

  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 1 large red capsicum, chopped
  • 8–10 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
  • 800 grams boiled and ripe tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons red chili powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons paprika powder (or substitute with chili powder)
  • 2 teaspoons cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Freshly chopped coriander leaves (for garnish)
  • 6 Eggs

Saute the Vegetable

Shakshuka Recipe

To make this recipe take a white pan then add about 2 tablespoons of oil. Next add 1 large finely chopped onion and saute it for a minute or so.

Next add 1 large chopped red capsicum and saute the vegetable untill the capsicum is nice and soft. this will take about 10 minutes. Remember the flame should be medium at this time.

Add Seasonings

Once the vegetables have softened up nicely, then add 1 teaspoon salt, 1 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder, 1 1/2 teaspoon paprika powder, 2 teaspoon cumin powder and 1 teaspoon black pepper . mix everything after adding the spice powders.

If you don’t have paprika you can just use the regular chili powder instead.

Add Garlic,Tomatoes

Next add about 8-10 cloves of finely chopped garlic and mix it all in.

Now add about 800 grams of boiled tomatoes to it, make sure the tomatoes are good and ripe. After adding tomatoes, mash them with a spatula.

Adjust Salt and Simmer

Shakshuka Recipe

At this point, add a little salt if needed make sure you add the salt before you add the eggs. let this simmer for about 5 minutes.

After about 5 minutes, add some freshly chopped coriander leaves and mix everything in.

Prepare to Add Eggs

Shakshuka Recipe

Now add the eggs, for this crack open the egg into a a small bowl and make a little well on dish on one side then gently drop in the egg into the well and you can just make a small wall around it . gently start dropping in all the eggs one by one in the same manner into the pan.

Cook the Eggs

Shakshuka Recipe

After adding all the eggs, reduce the heat to medium-low. Close the pan and let the eggs cook for around 3 minutes.

Check

The most important point to remember is the eggs have to be half done . you don’t want them to be completely cooked so after 2-3 minutes just open the pan and check to see if the eggs are done.

Once the white layer is formed on top and yolk is a little runny that is gooey in the center that’s the indication that the eggs are done if eggs are not done in about 3-4 minutes , just keep it for another one or two minutes . it depends on what heat you have the pan on so this can be a bit tricky so i recommend you to open the pan and check after about 3-4 minutes.
