Moonglet healthy Breakfast
Eveyone has pulses at their homes. And pulses are a high source for vegetarians.One of the pulses is Mung Dal from which we are going to make Moonglet today.Moonglet is like a tangy and spicy pancake.Which you can eat as breakfasr, as a snack even you can pack it for the kid’s lunchbox.So let’s start amazing breakfast moonglet without any delay. And along with a amchoor chaat masaala chutney.
Ingredient
For Moonglet:
- 1 cup moong dal
- 1 tbsp chopped ginger
- 1/2 tbsp turmeric
- 1/2 cup water (initially for grinding)
- 3 finely chopped onions
- 2 chopped green chilies
- 1 tbsp cumin seeds
- 1/3 cup chopped tomatoes
- 1/3 cup chopped carrots
- 1 handful chopped coriander leaves
- 1/3 cup chopped capsicum
- Salt (as per taste)
- Curry leaves (optional)
- 1 tbsp ENO (for making the batter light)
- Oil (for cooking)
For Tangy Amchoor Chaat Masala Chutney:
- 2 cups water
- 1/2 cup dry mango powder (amchoor)
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp chaat masala
- 1/2 tbsp black pepper powder
- 1-1.5 tbsp roasted cumin powder
- 1 tbsp black salt
- 1-1.5 tbsp chili powder
- Salt (as per taste)

Make a paste of pulses:
To make moonglet, first make a fine paste of the pulses.For which,
First of all, take 1 cup of moong dal, soak it for at least 2 hours. After that it will swell and you can strain it. Actually, this is a quick recipe, it will not take much time to cook and prepare it.
To grind the pulses, add all moong daal to the mixer jar and also add 1 tbsp of chopped ginger, 1/2 tbsp of turmeric and 1/2 cup of water.
Keep in mind: Use less water at first. Otherwise the batter will become light, then you will increase the amount of daal and again it will become thick, then water add this process will continue. That’s why use less water at first.
After grinding the daal add all the remaining water and grind it again. Now, your moong daal’s nice and thick batter is ready to use.
Add vegetables to the paste:
Now add 3 finely chopped onions, 2 chopped green chilies, 1 tablespoon cumin seeds, 1/3 cup chopped tomatoes, 1/3 cup chopped carrots, 1 handful chopped coriander leaves, 1/3 cup chopped capsicum and salt as per taste to this mixture. You can use whatever vegetables you like. Now mix it well.
Now this is optional, you can add some curry leaves by chopping it or as it is, it taste good. Now, your moonglet batter is ready.
Make a tangy amchoor chaat masaala chutney:
When your mogulette batter is ready, now make spicy dry mango and chaat masala chutney. It is also very easy to make. Take 2 cups of water in a bowl. First of all, add 1/2 cup dry mango powder to it. Also add 3/4 cup sugar, 1 tbsp chaat masala, 1/2 tbsp black pepper powder, 1-1.5 tbsp roasted cumin powder, 1 tbsp black salt, 1-1.5 tbsp chili powder and salt as per taste. Now mix it well so that there are no lumps left.
Now, you will cook it. Put all the mixture in a pan and let it boil, and then your chutney will be ready.You cooked it for only 2 minute.
Keep in mind: Don’t make the chutney too thick.
Make light moonglet:
Once your moonglet batter and chutney is ready, Then you can make the moonglet. For making moonglet you have to make it light because moong daal is very heavy. There are many ways to make it light. First is to add ENO, it will ferment it and moonglet will become very soft and fufly. Add 1 tbsp of ENO in the moonglet batter and mix it well.And within some seconds the whole batter will become light.Mix it and leave it for a minute.
Keep in mind: It will settle down if mixed too much.
Cook the moonglet:
Once your moonglet is light, then you can cook it. For which, You have a non stick pan. and add 1 tbsp of oil, let the oil heat nicely. Now, add a little batter(upto size of pan). Turn the gas low and cover it with lid. You will cook it till it becomes fluffy. Now add some more oil over it. andnow flip it. Again will cover it and it will cook in it’s own steam for few minutes.
Serve :
Now, Your moonglet is ready to serve. To serve it, first cut the moonglet into 4 pieces. And now you can serve it with mango chutney or tamarind chutney. You can give it as breakfast in the morning and evening or even in the lunch box of children.

Tips:
- You can add more vegetables.
- You can also make tamarind chutney instead of amchur chutney.
- You can use baking soda and curd instead of eno to make it lighter.
- You will cook it on one side until it puffs up nicely.
